Though dogs have always been a part of our lives it was in 1992 that we started showing in conformation in the U.S. Because our dogs are house dogs we keep our numbers small and rarely have more than a few dogs at a time. Though a pretty dog is a pretty dog we try to go beyond that. We are trying to produce a superior dog that can compete in the highly competitive Golden ring but also be a much loved, long lived, member of the family. We are incredibly proud that most of the dogs we breed go on to achieve the title of C.P.E. (Couch Potato Extraordinaire) with little or no training but must also toot the horns of the dogs earning titles in both the conformation and obedience ring as well. A little history, my maternal grandfather bred Wire Fox Terriers in the 1920's and 30's in Canada under the family/kennel name 'Armistead'. Unfortunately he passed prior to my birth but I still remember fingering the silk like ribbons and admiring the trophies his dogs had won as a small child. It was then that my interest in show dogs was sparked and continues to burn even more strongly today. When after years of owning and showing dogs I decided to breed my first litter the challenge of coming up with a kennel name that had some real meaning to me became a dilemma. Finally after months of tossing around ideas it all fell into place. I selected the first part of my kennel name 'STEAD' from my grandfathers family/kennel name of ArmiSTEAD and MOR from my married name of MORasco. Together creating the name STEADMOR it carries the history of my beginning combined with who I am today. This is why all puppies bred by us carry the 'STEADMOR' kennel name and we know you will be as proud of your STEADMOR puppy as we are.

There are many Golden Retrievers out there looking for homes who will make great family pets and can even excel in many of the venues offered to Golden Retrievers through AKC, just not conformation. Because of the Golden Retrievers forgiving nature they can often come out of poor home situations and when matched with the right person, become the kind of dog that legends are made of. People sometimes have the misconception that a rescue dog is defective in some way and that is why it is available through rescue. This is not always the case, sometimes a dog is given up solely because the family has realized that it didn't stay little as they had hoped, or they really do shed. Please, consider a rescue as a great addition to your family, they are often times easier to transition into your home than a puppy.

...to our website. We hope through these pages we will be able to show you our love and dedication for the Golden Retriever breed. We are located just South of Richmond, two hours South of the Nations Capital (Washington D.C.) and two hours from Virginia Beach. We are active in Conformation events (dog shows) in both the USA & Canada. Our dogs are our personal companions first and foremost, and show dogs second. They sleep on the couch, swim in the pool and are a huge part of our every day lives. Our love affair with Goldens began in 1998 but I have always been involved in showing dogs. Though he died before I was born, my grandfather bred and showed dogs in Canada, so I guess it was in my blood and not so unusual that I was always able to find my way to dog shows even as a young girl. After moving to the States in 1991 I was once again drawn to the world of dog shows and with the purchase of a German Shepherd Dog, I was again participating in the hobby I loved. As a members in good standing of The Golden Retriever Club of America, Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club, and the Florida Gulf Coast Golden Retriever Club we adhere to the COE (code of ethics) set forth as a guide for breeders. All of the dogs we breed [or breed to] obtain all of the clearances recommended by the GRCA (Golden Retriever Club of America) including but not limited to, OFA cleared hips, elbows and hearts as well as yearly CERF clearances.
